🍁 The fall refresh
"Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall." — F. Scott Fitzgerald
“Don't you love New York in the fall? It makes me want to buy school supplies. I would send you a bouquet of newly sharpened pencils if I knew your name and address.” ― Nora Ephron
I love fall.
Though my people are a desert people, I simply do not thrive in humidity. There will be no retiring in Florida for moi.
Quick announcement! I’m doing a flash forever sale (I never do forever discounts so this is big) until September 17th only — get 20% off paid annual subscriptions FOREVER. To be said in the voice of Smalls from “The Sandlot,” of course. RIP, James Earl Jones! That one was an underrated role of his, if you ask me, but of course, he had tons and tons to choose from. LEGEND.
Back to fall. By the time Labor Day arrives, I’m already plotting to store my tank tops and am running romantically, across fields, to my jeans, sweaters and leather jackets.
I keep fighting with my husband about how jealous I am about his birthday being at the exact best time of the year — it’s September 28th. What’s better? In the greater New York area, you cannot beat that week.
It’s that short window where it’s cute for everyone to wear shorts and a sweater or sweatshirt, the people’s princess-style. It’s PSLs on repeat. It’s a fun cider donut. It’s swan diving into cashmere. It’s sashaying around in a light jacket or a fleece. It’s having a second to yourself after an overscheduled summer so you don’t have FOMO that you’re not making the most of it. Side note: Tinx talks about how your 20s are mismarketed, and I absolutely cosign that. BUT SUMMER IS THE SAME. My birthday is also at a fun time of year — it’s June 7th (Gemini energy!) but spring pails in comparison to fall, in my humble O.
I graduated from college over 20 years ago (that still feels insane to me) and I STILL feel as if I should be starting over in the fall. Because I was raised by an astrologist, I know my birthdate (June 7, per the above) corresponds to an emotional age of around 17/18 — so this makes sense. To this day I’m weirdly enticed by all things dorm. For a long time, I was outfitting small New York apartments that benefited from some items intended for dorms but it was also the way some part of my spirit identifies. I believe we all have an age we are on the inside (and a hair color and hair length, for that matter).
Anyway. I’m always buying socks, underwear, bras, notebooks, pens, and refreshing my beauty stash for the coming season. Here are 11 things I bought for my annual fall refresh.
