Three Substacks I’m loving
Welcome to June!
I’m having a better June than May (which is not hard to beat, frankly, as that month contained the worst day of my life) . My four-month old is getting over a teething-related ear infection and is starting to sleep through the night, so life is about 47% better.
I’ve updated my ShopMy with my favorite things and my Amazon storefront. I’m not the most focused influencer — and that’s why I have a Substack about the things I buy. TIBAAC runs mostly on paid subscriptions, which keeps me from having to have ads on this newsletter but I do earn some money from commissions (right now, about 15%), so being as lazy as I’ve been about incorporating more of that will only help me dedicate more time and energy to this Substack and my new one. So that’s the goal!

RPZL X Grey Bandit
My favorite hair accessory brand, RPZL, has a STUNNING new collab with Grey Bandit (see photo above) for summer and you need to get involved. The starfish clip is my warm-weather go-to (it’s very Enchantment Under The Sea Dance) but I also love the green and blue ones. The crocheted headband is so Olivia from The Wonder Years, I can’t even stand it (in a good way). There’s even a shell hair extension (chic!) and it comes in the most adorable travel bag I’ve been using for weekend trips. Get into it! The collection dropped yesterday and is available for a limited time.
LinkedOut
Let’s talk LinkedIn. I’m a fan of social media but for some reason, I CANNOT get myself to use LinkedIn other than for some mild networking, sourcing new copy clients and staying in touch with old colleagues. Because my network on there is a mix of people I worked with at women’s publications but also my former financial coworkers and tech clients, it feels so weird to promote anything there, including this Substack, which is, of course, to my own detriment.
You know that part of “Fight Club” where the unnamed protagonist is irate that Martha keeps going to his support groups, including one he frequents as a healthy person for testicular cancer? And he feels like he can’t be who he needs to be because she knows him in a different way? That’s how I feel on LinkedIn and I need to get over it because it’s a useful channel. Anyone who’s spanned multiple industries feel this way? Anywho. Rant over.
My Decalt review
Okay. Decalt! This exfoliating liquid has gotten a lot of buzz. I heard about it maybe a year or two ago on the Goalstogetglowing Instagram. I’d never heard of its parent company, Slurp, and was intrigued with its Deciem-esque packaging.
The name (Slurp) for a skincare brand is kind of genius, especially for exfoliants. I’ve tried many, many skin sloughers, from the famed Biologique Recherche P50 (in all its iterations) to Paula’s Choice 2% BHA Liquid to all of the latter’s attempted knockoffs.
Per the Slurp website, Decalt is an acidic decongestant focused on treating chronic congestion (blackheads, whiteheads, acne, milia, papules etc) and decreasing pore diameter.
I bought a bottle a few months ago and used it three to four times weekly. So how does Decalt measure up and is it worth the $58 for 5.07 ounces? Here’s my review.
