Before we get into it, a few things!

The winter watch

I’m fully absorbed in Love & Death on Netflix. Elizabeth Olsen and Lily Rabe are doing the work. The big hair. The casseroles. The passive aggression masquerading as southern kindness. It’s all so entertainingly unhinged. I refreshed my manicure while watching this week.

The winter listen

My current obsession is The Lazy Genius Collective podcast. Kendra Adachi’s whole philosophy of being a genius about the things that matter and lazy about the things that don’t is speaking directly to my soul right now. It’s like permission to stop optimizing every single aspect of my life, which as a type-A freelancer is both revelatory and slightly threatening to my entire identity. It’s my new walking podcast.

The winter discovery

I recently fell down a rabbit hole with the TikTok saga of Anthony Festa, who showed up to his booked SolidCore class, found it closed but still had the door code, let himself in, and took the entire class solo in an empty studio. And then—and then—drama ensued when the studio found out. The chaos! The audacity! The commitment to fitness! I cannot stop thinking about it. It’s like a one-act play about late-stage capitalism, boutique fitness culture, and the kind of unhinged determination that simultaneously horrifies and inspires me. This is the content the internet was made for.

Another winter discovery

Plagued with blisters when you wear boots? I heard a tip that I tried that works perfectly — pilates socks inside your boots to keep your feet from slipping around. I tested it out this week and voila! I like these because they scrunch ‘80s-style and function as slipper socks around the house.

Dark showering

Dark showers. Get into them. This isn’t some wellness cult thing (though give it six months and Goop will probably charge $500 for a dark shower workshop). I’m literally turning off the overhead lights and using a waterproof rechargeable lamp for ambiance in my bathroom.

It transforms my utilitarian bathroom into something that felt almost meditative. Like a spa, but without the judgmental wellness influencers and $300 ancient healing treatments.

The lamp is waterproof, and gives off this gorgeous ambient light that makes everything feel softer and more intentional. I put it on a shelf in the room and now my everything shower has become a whole moment. My friend asked if I was showering by candlelight like a Victorian widow when I told her about this, and the answer is yeah, kind of! Except safer and with better water pressure.

The updated winter shower lineup

Here’s what’s currently living in my shower and making winter marginally more bearable.
